Once you have experienced the beauty and culture of Pisa, including the must-see Leaning Tower, why not get out and see some of the surrounding Tuscany region? The reasons for touring Italy with a hire car are manifold. Independence is one good reason. Car hire gives you the freedom to explore everything that Tuscany has to offer at a pace that suits you.

Tuscany is an idyllic Italian region, encompassing a multitude of quintessentially Italian delights – delicious Chianti and Montepulciano wines, wonderfully preserved hilltop towns, fabulous cuisine and friendly Italian people, all set against a stunning Italian landscape and azure skies. The region offers a number of superb day trips and excursions to make during your Tuscany holiday – the following are two of the best available from the beautiful Tuscan city of Pisa.

A DAY IN THE CHIANTI

The famous wine region of the Chianti lies between Florence and Siena in the Tuscany region of Italy. Take a wine tasting tour of the region by driving along the Chiantigiana Wine Road and stopping in the quaint winemaking villages along the way (draw straws for the designated driver!). You will reach Greve, which is the principal town of the Chianti region and has a delightful weekly market in the main square. Stop off for lunch in a restaurant or café, or if you are being thrifty or sticking to a budget you could perhaps buy cheap but delicious traditional Italian food in a local shop and have a low cost lunch al fresco.

If you think there are still more wines that you want to taste, then keep going – but if your driver has had enough of ferrying passengers around and wants to drink some wine his/herself, head back towards Pisa with any purchases you have made and enjoy!
