Many college students have college term papers that are due in a couple of days and they have not even started. It happens all the time on college campuses across the nation. This situation is obviously not the optimal way to do a term paper. Still, it is not a hopeless situation. You can still turn your term paper into a successful venture. The key is to know where to focus your efforts, and how to get there fast.

First off, you should know that the college term paper is not a book report. You can not just sit down and type out a bunch of opinions and words. You must take the time to do your best with the time you have left. That is the key to getting a solid score on a last minute college paper.

First you want to figure out the question you are trying to answer with the paper. Every great college term paper answers who, what, when, where or how. Pick one and a topic that interests you. If you are interested in the material, then the work will likely come much easier and faster for you. If you have an assigned topic, then dive right in and do not waste much time over thinking the situation. No matter how much thought you give it, the term paper will still be a blank page when you are done thinking. Pick a topic and move on.

Next, you need to take a little bit of time to draw up a rough outline. This outline should map out the things you want to cover, and it is fine at this point to simply put the aim. You need not fill in details because you have not gathered all your information yet anyway. Just make a rough outline that is in logical order to prove your thesis. This is going to help keep you on track to finish. Do not include anything that does not directly relate to the topic at hand, and the question you are answering about the said topic. No fluff should be added either. Simply focused facts and insight should be included.

Now that you have an outline, you need to get online and find your expert. The number one person that writes on a given subject that you can find. This will be the person that everyone else uses as their resources. If you look long enough, you will see the same names popping up in the resource boxes. Zero in on an established expert, and document this as you go. Make sure you can prove them being an expert by keeping notes of the various people that have referenced them in their own work. Once you know who this expert is, then flower out from there. The expert will be your primary source of facts and the people he references will be the rest. This will give you a targeted resource that is unquestioned and real.

At this point, you need to start searching out your information. Read everything that your expert says about your topic, and specifically about the question you are trying to answer. Seek out studies, experiments and so on that backup your assertions, and then document them as well. Your first draft should be lightening quick and no real structure other than the outline.

Finally, go back and proofread the entire thing. Make sure your grammar and so on are put together and have others read the paper as well. Take their suggestions and improve it where you can. Then hammer out the structure and detail of your college term paper. This is where you fine tune it and put the finished paper together. Once you have a “final” copy, go through it again. Hopefully you have at least one day to go back in and make adjustments, additions or fixes as needed. This is your clean up day.
