When you are getting your car tuned up, you probably do not give much thought into the process that is occurring. Understanding what the mechanics are doing to your car may help you take better care of your car.

First, they are going to check your oil and change it if this is necessary. When you are driving everyday your engine will be pumping oil throughout the entire engine to make sure everything runs smoothly with the other surrounding parts.

When you do not have oil in your engine your can ruin your entire engine. The engine will run dry and parts that work together will have so much friction between them that your engine can seize completely.

As you drive everyday your engine will naturally burn off some of the oil that has been put in the engine. Over time, the oil will become dirty and it will also burn off so that it is not effective in the engine.

Taking out the old oil and putting in new oil is necessary for your car to work properly. After the mechanics have checked your oil they will move on to check other key liquids that are needed in your car.

The driver can check some of these liquids, which the mechanic is replacing and checking, on a more consistent basis. Windshield wiper fluid is a great example of a fluid that can easily be checked and replaced by the driver.

When you open your hood you should have a part of your engine that is clearly labeled to take in windshield wiper fluid. Often times, you will find that the labeling is the picture of a windshield on top of small canister.

Simply purchase windshield wiper fluid from a local grocery store or even a gas station and fill up this container in your engine. This way, when you are out driving you will be able to keep your windshield clean.

Many people do not understand how important the cleanliness of their windshield is for their safety. When you are trying to be a good driver and be safe on the road you will definitely need a clean windshield.

The better you take care of your windshield the better your visibility will be from the car. There are a lot of people that minimize the importance of their visibility until they are behind the wheel trying to see through a dirty windshield.

When you have windshield wiper fluid you will be able to get a large portion of the dirt and residue off without even getting out of your car. This may be especially helpful when you are driving through poor weather.

The worse that the driving conditions become the more you will need windshield wiper fluid and good windshield wipers. The mechanic should also check the quality of your windshield wipers when they are looking over your car.

The windshield itself will definitely get a good look by the mechanic. Any cracks of dents in your windshield can potentially be very dangerous to the driver or anyone else that is in the car while it is being driven.

Although the windshields have been developed with new safety mechanisms, they can still shatter if they are maltreated. A crack or a chip in the windshield will take away from the strength of the windshield.

Because this piece of glass is the only barrier between you and the outside world, you have to make sure that you are taking excellent care of the window. When you notice a crack or a dent you should have it looked at immediately.

Not only will this keep you safe, but it will also keep your bills to a minimal amount of money. When you do not address the problem immediately you may have more dents or larger cracks to deal with.

Compromising the integrity of the window only takes one small chip or crack in the windshield. It is much easier for a crack or a chip in the windshield to grow into a large problem than for a large problem to occur at once.

After the mechanic checks your windows he or she will move onto checking your tires. There should be an ample amount of tread left on the tires so you are able to stop with enough time to keep you safe.

The next time that you want to go in and have your car checked be an active participant in the check up. Have your mechanic explain to you what he or she is looking for and what you can do to keep your car in good working order.
