Many people would complain that running a business is hard and they could not figure out the way to advertise the products at low cost. In fact, while many people try to use TV commercials or large promotional campaigns to promote the products, traditional way of sending sales letters directly might actually help business to increase the sales volume.
When people try to do the advertising work, they cannot successfully attractive a lot of people to visit the business and they would then think that direct mail sales letters would not work. The truth is that a lot of famous businesses nowadays once also used the direct sales letters to promote their businesses. The reason for the failure is not due to the nature of the promotional method, but because of the failure of the business owners to understand the necessary tips for creating a good letter.
The first thing that you should consider when you are going to use the direct mails to do the advertisement is that readers want precise content. They do not want to read hundreds of word without understanding the theme. Therefore, number of words is not something indicating the quality of the sales letters. You must write as short as possible and you must present all the basic ideas clearly with the limited words. Without this technique your letter would be lengthy and no one would want to read it.
Apart from this, you would also need to provide attractive design of the letter to draw the attention from your readers. You could use images or interesting introduction. Usually readers would only spend 10 seconds to browse the first few sentences of the letter and consider whether they should continue to read. If you cannot get these seconds to create a good impression, your letter would go to the trash.
Sometimes, you would inevitably include some professional words in the articles in the mail. It might increase the reliability of you because the readers would think that you are professional. However if the jargons or difficult words are used too frequently, your readers would feel annoyed. And they probably would not remain so patient to read the letters.
One of the things that are difficult for beginners of direct mail sales letters would be promoting the products with suitable praising. Sometimes people would be too silly that they strongly advise people to do this and that. It would make their readers think that they are hard-selling the products instead of telling the truth about the products or the services provided by them. They would not trust the content in the letter because the words are too unrealistic.
Therefore, making the direct mail sales letter could be complicated and you should work hard to improve the content of the letters all the time in order to keep your readers reading the content.
Thus, you have to make sure that everything in the letter is true. You should try to list a few bad points about the products so that your clients know that you are objective. Of course, you should try to hide some serious bad points if you worry that these big problems would make your readers not willing to purchase.
