Our society today does not particularly cultivate a Christian attitude. In fact, it does quite the opposite.
Even our society that was once based on God has begun to stray from this original assumption. People all over the United States are fighting to have God removed from our government completely.
For those that are trying to live a life that promotes Christian ideals this can be very frustrating. It may seem that you are alone in your battle to live your life the way you feel is acceptable to your God.
Although it is easy to feel alone, there are many other people in the country that are fighting the same battle every day. Try to surround yourself with these people.
You cannot surround yourself with these people if you do not know where to find these people. You should start by regularly attending a church that is in accordance with your beliefs.
This may take you a few tries and you may have to attend a few churches before you find the church that is right for you but you should be able to find one. If you live in a big city there are probably many different denominations surrounding you.
Talk to some friends and family in the community and ask them which churches they have attended and why they did or did not like the church. If you are interested in a church do not let people deter you from attending, just go for it.
You will be able to feel what the church is about from just one meeting. If you feel content while you are there and your soul feels at peace then it is probably a good church for you to attend.
Once you have found a church that you want to attend regularly you should start doing just that. Immerse yourself in the church and start to meet people that you are worshipping with.
The sense of belonging in a religious community will help you feel less alone in a world that makes you feel alone. More than likely you will be welcomed with open arms into the church.
Become a member of the churches community not only in your words and beliefs but also in your actions. Being an active member of a church may mean much more than attending once a week for an hour.
If you are a part of a church and you still feel like something is missing you should look outside of yourself. Start to serve the people around you.
The service that you are giving to those around you will enable you to be more Christ-like in your own life. With a Christ-like attitude it will be much more difficult to feel sorry for yourself.
You do not have to go through any grandiose measure to serve your fellow man. There are opportunities for service all around you.
After you have found opportunities for service make sure that you take part in these opportunities with the right attitude. Try your best to act altruistically.
The habits that you create in your everyday life can also have a large effect on how you feel about yourself. Centering your life on your beliefs will give you a sense of peace that is not able to be found elsewhere.
This means that everything that you do in your life you should try and make a part of your Christian ideals. The books that you read, the music you listen to and the movies that you watch should all be in line with this ideal.
There are many different stores and companies that have started to produce materials that promote a Christian ideal. If you look for this material it is out there.
It is also very beneficial to read scriptures and pray every day. Many people like to pray at the beginning and the end of every day.
Your prayer does not have to be the first or the last thing you do in the day, but it can serve as the bookends to your days. Conversing with your God and taking the time to listen and be open for the promptings he will give is crucial.
Although a Christian lifestyle is neither what is popular nor what is common amongst the members or our society, you are not alone. You can find a sense of peace with yourself, with Christ and with God if you are willing to invest the time and effort.
This peace in Christ cannot be found elsewhere.
