When you are on a treadmill you have to make sure you are taking all of the necessary safety precautions to ensure your workout is safe. Many people cur corner when it comes to the safety on a treadmill because they do not take the workout seriously.

As you are running outside you have a very different set of safety precautions you need to take. When you are used to these safety precautions the precautions that you have to take in the gym are going to be much different than those you will have to take outside.

First, you want to make sure that you have plenty room around you when you are running. You should not have a large object behind you and you should make sure there is room to hop of the machine if you need to get off.

Often times if you are running on a treadmill in a gym you will have to run in a very long line of treadmills. This means, you want to make sure you know how you are going to get off the treadmill if you have to abandon ship.

Sometimes the only way you can get off of the machine in a safe manner is to hop off. If you have been running on a machine for a long time you should be able to hop off of the machine by hopping on the side rails with your feet.

If the machine does not have any side rails you have to make sure that you are getting off of the machine in the safest manner possible. When you do not have control you want to make sure you do not end up pressed about the belt that is moving.

The belt will continue to be moving and it can easily take your skin off if your skin is pressed against it. There are a lot of people that end up having to have serious surgery because they have an accident while they are on a treadmill.

No matter what your situation, you have to make sure that you are taking the time to be safe. If you are not safe while you are on the machine you are going to be putting yourself in a potentially painful situation.

After you have insured that the treadmill is in a safe place you should then take the time to get to know the machine. If there is a safety clip or any other safety device you have to make sure you know how to properly use it.

Many people feel that the safety clip is going to get in their way when they are on the machine. These safety clips have been designed so that they will only help your workout, not hurt your workout.

Take the time to find a place on your clothing that will be conducive to clipping on the safety clip without being in your way. Many times people find that the best place to do this is on the waistline of their pants.

You may notice that the majority of people at the gym are not using these clips. Although you may not think it is cool or necessary to use the clip, go against these feelings and put your mind and body at easy by clipping on the clip.

Finally, you have to make sure that you have someone with you or nearby if you are going to be on the machine. This is usually not a problem when you are in a gym or a public area that allows you to use their treadmills.

If you are not in a communal area and you are running on the treadmill, you have to make sure that you have someone that will be able to hear you. If you get trapped under the treadmill you want to make sure that someone can hear you.

When you are working out alone, you should keep a phone nearby incase you get injured. Sometimes you may not even be caught under the treadmill but you may hurt your leg or foot so badly that you cannot walk.

No matter what your problem or injury is you should wait for someone to come and help you. If you get up or you move yourself you may be causing much more damage and be signing up for a longer recovery period.

A treadmill workout can be very effective, make sure that you take the time to also make it safe. This way you will be able to continue working out in this effective manner.
