One of the top luxury items in history that is still around today is the Persian rug. These rugs are well-known for their quality and how long they will stand against time.

The antique Persian rugs are especially cherished for their age. A Persian rug is not considered to be an antique unless it was made before 1930 in Persia.

Persia is located in modern day Iran today. However, these rugs are made with the same quality and techniques today as they were in ancient history.

Persian rugs were also made with the best wool and the more resistant natural dyes. This makes it fairly easy to check if a rug is really antique or not.

Collectors can simply check to see if the Persian rug is made with synthetic dye. The presence of synthetic dye means that there is no way that particular rug is an antique.

The older Persian carpets that are still on the market today date back to the 16th century. These collectors items are very expensive though.

You will have to pay more than $25,000 for an authentic, antique rug. If you cannot afford to pay for an ancient Persian rug, there are many rugs that are several hundred years old that are sold for less than $5,000.

However, if you are looking for some art to enhance a room with, you will not be able to obtain one of these rugs for $500 unless you are extremely lucky. If you find a great deal like this, be sure to enter it with extreme caution.

It is likely that this particular rug is an imitation or a fake Persian rug. If you need to test the age of a rug, make sure you do not simply go on how it looks.

It is very easy to make something look wore and well-used. This is shown by the popularity of ripped and worn jeans today.

One indication of whether the Persian rug is antique or not is how it looks when it is spread on the floor. New Persian rugs will lie flat with not wrinkles, ripples, curled edges, or other malformations.

Antique Persian rugs should also look this way. It is also likely that the dye will be slightly faded.

However, the colors in the Persian rug should still be distinctly identifiable as well as the pattern. Bleeding is a sure indication that the rug is a fake.

In addition, only the oldest Persian carpets should have tears, stains, moth holes, and missing pieces. You may want an expert in Persian rugs to look over the deal before you make the purchase.

There are many different patterns and designs that were used in Persian rugs anciently. Typically, the more traditional Iranian the patterns that were used in the rug, the higher the quality of the rug.

It is good to remember that labels of “authentic”, “tribal”, “ethnic”, or “antique” does not mean that the Persian rug is “authentic”, “tribal”, “ethnic”, or “antique.” The pattern does not particularly mean that it is antique either.

Many of those patterns are imitated in lesser quality carpets today and a variety of patterns were used anciently. However, most of the authentic Persian rug designs fall into three specific groups.

The first is the pictorial designs that display a scene from the history of Persia or a story found in ancient records. The second is the geometric designs that were popular for the area.

The third group is the curvilinear designs that reach a climax in the center. This center is usually referred to as the medallion.

Iran is separated into several sections. The northwest is known as Tabriz, the south is Kerman, and the east is known as Baluch.

Different designs come from each of these regions. It can be helpful to know which kind of designs come from each region when you are considering a purchase.

Before you make a purchase, you will want to review as many different Persian rugs as possible. This will help you decide which kind of design and how antique of a Persian carpet you would like.

The review of these carpets can also help you get a feel for the range of prices you will be looking at for a quality rug. If you are purchasing a rug online from a private seller, make sure that you are going to get the quality you are looking for.

However, Persian rugs are beautiful additions to any home. The research it will take is well-worth finding a quality rug to add to your home.
