While Mazatlan is a beautiful place in and of itself, there are several nearby locations that everyone should see. These locations are beautiful, fun, and an overall fantastic experience.
The Copala Tour is a fantastic six hour tour. Copala is a small colonial village situated in the lower picturesque foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains.
The town of Copala is a small town that used to a primarily mining town in the past. The red roofs with steep cobblestoned streets and friendly people make it seem as if time has stopped and you are seeing a snapshot out of the past.
Even, though the town is small, Copola features plenty of restaurants worth eating at. This is also the perfect opportunity to purchase souvenirs at the local Copola handicraft stores.
The tour includes a firsthand observation of how furniture, potter, and bricks are all made by hand. The Rustic Bakery and the Saint Sebastian Church are two places that every tourist in Mazatlan must see.
There are only 600 people who live in the town. There is relative peace compared to other popular vacation locations.
When you have a minute, take the time to walk down the streets to see the rustic colonial buildings. The San Jose Church features a small plaza out front and was built in 1740.
Of course, the tour will also include some of the work of local artists. This is one of the most defining features of any town.
The drive to and from Copala is very beautiful, featuring the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. It has grown from a few decades ago.
It used to be a ghost town, but the village grew and the buildings were restored. Tourism of the small town also helps them to keep improving their village.
The church and other site seeing monuments are sure to give you a small taste of what life was like in the past. This town is well worth a small part of the day to walk around and relax.
The colonial town of Concordia is also on the Copal tour route. Concordia has a history of being a furniture making town.
The furniture is made by hand, and the townspeople sell their work on the streets leading into town. More recently, Concordia has also developed a love of pottery.
Beautiful, hand crafted pottery mostly designed in the Columbian motif is also sole in the town. The town has a very old, square, tradition plaza located in front of the church.
This church is the oldest church in the state of Sinaloa. At more than 350 years old, the church is a great backdrop for family photos during your vacation.
Mangos are everywhere to be found in the town of Concordia. They are sold everywhere you look and are very delicious.
The tour will also take you past the local mineral springs where women have traditionally done their laundry for hundreds of years.
Another town close to Mazatlan that is a famous tourist location is El Rosario. This town is also very small and has a famous church.
The church of El Rosario is worth more than one million dollars. At one time El Rosario was the richest town in Northwest Mexico because of the successful mining operations.
The alter is extremely elaborate and ornate. It alone is worth the trip to see the church. Lola Beltran, a famous Mexican vocalist, is also from the town of El Rosario.
There is a museum that was built in memory of her located in El Rosario. However, if you are interested in visiting this museum be sure to call ahead because it is only open at specific times and seasons.
This is also a great place to shop for traditional pottery, furniture, and leather products. Mazatlan is the center of a bustling, brilliant Mexican culture that features a beautiful landscape and many opportunities to explore.
