It is not every day that you plan for your camping – maybe you want it in the forest, mountain or riverbanks. It is just easy to say you want to go on an outdoor activity. You have not thought about the intricacies of the planning – the things you have to bring along. Camping is not just going to the park; it takes more preparation.
You have to identify the place of your adventure. The things you have to take with you, the camping supplies, are also dependent on your destination. How remote would it be? If it were a forest, then it really would be very isolated. And for this, you would need more paraphernalia in preparation for untoward eventualities. But if you are only going to camp by the riverbank, just a few meters away from the road, then you would need less.
Another factor necessary to decide on while doing the planning is to figure out how many days and nights you intend to be out in the open. The duration of your stay is also a determinant of the necessities that you have to pack.
How many will be going with you in this particular outdoor exploration? You would not only bring food and utensils for your own self. Camping is a group activity and in organizing you have to include your companions in your plans.
What to bring along is the most crucial part. So maybe it will be wise to make a checklist of the things that will be urgently needed while in this extra-ordinary escapade. And whatever is listed does not necessarily mean you have to bring them yourself. You can discuss the necessities with your companions, apportion or divide among yourselves the things each one has to contribute.
You are staying outdoor only over the week-end, so that is probably two days and one night. Then a backpack for your supplies will suffice. You will need your shorts, under-wears, shirts, jackets, cap, hiking or walking rubber shoes, socks, slippers, towels, hankies and toiletries. These are the personal items each one has to prepare.
The food, cooking ware and utensils, flashlights, matches, tent or sleeping bags, blankets can be divided and assigned to the participants. One very important item to bring is the first aid kit. The kit does not have to contain so much – just the very basic. Urgent contents of a first aid bag are bandages, gauze, plaster, disinfectant, alcohol, scissors, cotton, medicine for wounds or cuts, and pills for fever, headache, loose bowel movement. It would also be good to bring sunblock lotion and anti-sting ointment.
It is also beneficial if you can bring a small transistor radio and a communication device. Bring a mobile phone because in case of emergency, you may be able to use it – if you find signal in your camping site.
You are now ready and set to go for your atypical voyage. But before to finally jump off, have another look inside your bag and double check if you have not forgotten anything in the list.
