Running on a treadmill can be a great way to get your heart rate up and keep it up throughout an exercise. Keeping your heart rate in your target heart rate zone will be the quickest way to strengthen your heart and see fitness results.
When you get on the treadmill the screen will light up and ask you for some information about you. Usually the treadmill will ask you to enter in your age and your weight so that it can determine where your heart rate should be.
Some people are not honest when they put in this information on the treadmill. In all reality, being dishonest about your age and your weight to a machine is very self-defeating and will do you no good.
The machine does not care how old you are or even how much you weigh. The only reason that the machine needs to know this information is to tell keep you working in the heart rate that will be the most beneficial.
After you have entered in this information you will find that the machine will adjust your workout so you can get a good workout. When you start to fall under the heart rate range that you need to be in, the machine will adjust either the speed or the incline.
This also means that you need to make sure you keep the heart rate monitor on your body to ensure the machine keeps you on the right path. You should make sure that you take the time to hook up the heart rate monitor to your body.
There are a lot of different ways to ensure that you are going to be working hard when you are on the machine. Many strength trainers and athletic trainers will use these techniques to increase the intensity of a run on the treadmill.
Using one of the elastic bands that provide resistance in a workout while on the treadmill will dramatically change your workout. You will need another person to ensure you are getting the most out of this type of workout.
Have someone stand behind you and hold the band taught. You should then step inside of the band and make sure that the band is around your waist so that it feels like you are running against a whole new set of pressures.
It is required that the person holding the band is strong enough to hold the band in place even when you are running against it. They will only have to stand still and make sure that you have the band to run against.
While you are running against the band you will have to engage muscles that you may have never engaged on the treadmill before. Your abdominal muscles will be the first group of muscles that you will notice a difference in.
Because the band will be resting against your hips your abdominal muscles will have to engage at a higher intensity to keep your body stable and standing straight up. The more that you engage these muscles the harder your workout will be.
There are a lot of people that never even use these muscles during a workout. All that you will need to change your workout is a friend that is strong enough to hold the band and the elastic band itself.
Another great way to change your workout and increase the muscles you are using is to run with weights. There are many different types of weights that are designed for you to use while you are running.
They are made to attach comfortably to your wrists or even to your ankles. When you first start your run with weights you have to make sure that you are starting with weights that are small enough to avoid injuries.
You may not realize what a small five-pound weight can do to change your workout. There are a lot of people that do not understand how much a simple weight will change everything about their run.
When you are running with your weights you have to make sure that you are taking your steps properly. The form that becomes part of your run will be very important as you are using weights.
The more that you are able to improve your form the better the workout will be. You will be able to strengthen more muscles during your runs if you take the time to change your workout just a tad.
